About the Hub

Mission & Vision of the Alabama Hub

We are a formation of organizations big and small working to advance the climate and environmental justice movement in Alabama. We work together to build grassroots capacity, align on policies, and pursue strategic actions aimed at ensuring that all Alabamans can thrive today, and for generations to come.

We imagine a collective future for Alabama grounded in equity and justice. We uplift the voices of everyday people while illuminating the relationships between environment, labor, economy, land, and democracy.

Together, we are committed to building a diverse, community-led movement for climate and environmental justice that centers the lived experiences and leadership of those most impacted by climate change and environmental racism. This includes Alabamians who are BIPOCLGBTQIA, poor, incarcerated, disabled, low-wage workers, farmers, fishers, and those working in or living near polluting industries.

The AL Hub is part of a larger formation: The Gulf South for a Green New Deal & Taproot Earth.

About: The Gulf South for a Green New Deal

Gulf South for a Green New Deal (#GulfSouth4GND) is a regional formation of more than 300 organizations advancing long-existing work towards climate, racial, and economic justice in five states and one colonial territory across the Gulf South: Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Puerto Rico. The formation is supported by Taproot Earth and Project South

Rooted in bottom-up organizing and driven by frontline leadership, we move together on policy, regional action campaigns, and strategic communications. As the nation’s first formation advancing a regional vision for a just climate transition, we are committed to the realization of a uniquely Gulf South version of a Green New Deal that is anchored in the histories, realities, and power of the region. Read more about how this formation was, well, formed.
